The Dillinger Escape Plan has a bit of a spotty track record, but this is a great EP. Recorded with Mike Patton, the music is just as schizophrenic and off-putting as you'd expect, but this inspired combination of musicians yields some of Patton's best material and probably the highlight of DEP as well. Eerily aware of melody amidst the chaos, the band hurdles through breakneck thrash and grind and brings things to a slow boil on the haunting coda of "When Good Dogs Do Bad Things." This is what to do right if you're in a grind band. Check it out.
