This is a total 90s album, no matter what year it was actually released in (2002). Supposedly inspired by a drive Josh Homme took through the desert, this often sounds like the soundtrack to a Hunter S. Thompson story, particularly the sinister "Hanging Tree" and the ominous crawl of "The Sky Is Falling." The radio snippets throughout the album add a sort of context and offer dark humor. Pop music for metalheads, grunge for people who missed Nirvana, good music for everyone, this is a catchy, groovy, heavy, awesome album. "No One Knows" is one of the best rock songs of this decade.
