One of the great bands in any genre, Godspeed You! Black Emperor loom large over all post-rock releases today. This album and their later magnum opus F#a#infinity pushed music in new directions and rendered most of the artists in the post-rock scene irrelevant or simply less interesting. The use of samples, field recordings and mechanical noises, as well as a lack of obvious song structure, creates an otherworldly feeling. This record is brilliant. Try it with headphones on.
